Most people work hard all their lives so that they will have an easy time in their twilight years. This dream they often achieve. Unfortunately, most people work too hard and neglect their health. As a result most seniors in their golden years have the money to live well but don’t have the health to live it. Most already have 5-10 years of health problems history before they retire.

The golden years are meant to be enjoyed. This is very hard to do if you have underlying health concerns. What most people don’t realize is you lose muscle strength and fitness after the age of 25. If you don’t exercise or practice a fitness regimen, you’ll have the strength of a 70 year old at 50. How then can you enjoy a trip to Europe when most 50 year old people can’t walk 2 flights of steps without breathing hard?

hand exercise weights

When I was 14 I tried out for the track team and got it with flying colors. Besides my natural running abilities, I had no formal training in sports. I didn’t know how to train or what I needed to do to get faster. I didn’t even know the distances of track events. One time I even ran for an hour carrying weights in both my legs as well as carrying two ten pound dumbbell each in my hand. I ended up with over ten blisters in each hand. I should have carried hand exercise weights.

Hand exercise weights are modified dumbbells. They are made to be more comfortable and to prevent blisters. Usually, they are wrapped in neoprene or other soft material to prevent blisters. Some also have a rubber band to allow better grip of the weights. No more blisters or rough hands.

ab workout routine

Abdominal workouts form an important part of any fitness plan. Everybody seems to be going for the look of the trim waistline, a hard rock stomach and the six pack outline. It is good to have the look but it is even better to achieve a strengthening of the muscle that will result in the flat tummy. Strong stomach muscles will be an advantage, whatever sport activity you indulge in you can start right now with one of the easier ab workout routine for the beginner. This exercise involves crunches. Do it in sets of 3, 25 reps. Take a 3 minute rest between each set:

~Lie flat on your back on a mat with your feet flat on the ground.
~Place your hands lightly on either side of your head keeping your elbows out. Push the small of your back down to the floor to isolate your ab muscles.
~Begin to roll your shoulders off the floor.
~Continue to push down with your lower back. Your shoulders should come up off the floor only about four inches, and your lower back should always remain on the floor.
~As always, make sure you let your abs do the work in a slow and controlled fashion.

cardiovascular workouts

Everyone is trying to take care of their hearts. Everyone should. Heart disease is one of the leading killers of mankind. To strengthen the heart, lose weight and do cardiovascular workouts. If you are just starting, exercise moderately 3 to 4 times a week is good.

Cardiovascular workouts are those that work your heart aerobically. This means you exercise between heart rates of about 60-74 percent of your max heart rate. The best is probably swimming and brisk walking. These two exercises won’t stress the joints much. Also, if you do these exercises you’ll find it hard to go anaerobic.
