homemade soymilk

I admit that I was doubtful about soya milk. I basically thought that anything this healthy doesn’t taste very good. That was until I came across a soymilk sampling at an organic market.

Now I can’t get enough of the stuff! I even tried out homemade soymilk! I just love the rich, smooth, distinctly velvety flavor of this product that I just don’t get from cow’s milk.

Soybean Nutrition

soybean nutrition

On my last check up, my doctor told me to stop eating too much fatty food. I couldn’t help it because my family just loves to eat meat. But he said that if I don’t change my lifestyle soon, something bad was bound to happen.

He told me to read up on soybean nutrition, and your website has been an eye opener for me. I printed out some information and stuck it on my refrigerator as a reminder to eat healthy. Thanks a lot!

Soybella Soymilk MakerWhen I first started trying to monitor my diet and eat better food that would help me maintain my health, the first thing I noticed was how expensive all of this “healthy” food can be.  Soy products are no exception, often costing far more than their less-than-healthy counterparts.  My family and I love soy milk and our commitment to ethical farming as well as health has made it a staple of our diet.

Whether it’s tofu or any number of other soy products our family requires a good healthy dose of this unique food.   With the Soybella Soymilk Maker we can finally enjoy improved health without breaking the bank.  Thanks to Soy Milk Crossroads we can enjoy our health AND our money!

Apple, Sauerkraut & Cheddar Quesadillas

Author: TheDietDiva

Apple, Sauerkraut & Cheddar Quesadillas

This combination may seem unusual—until you try it. The sweet-tartness of the apple, creaminess of the cheese and bite of the sauerkraut work together beautifully in this easy hot sandwich. Serve with oven-roasted potatoes or a green salad.

Makes 2 main-dish or 4 appetizer servings

ACTIVE TIME: 10 minutes

TOTAL TIME: 30 minutes

EASE OF PREPARATION: Easy

1 cup sauerkraut, rinsed
1/2 cup water
2 9-to-10-inch (burrito-size) flour tortillas
1 1/3 cups grated reduced-fat Cheddar cheese
1 small Granny Smith or other tart, juicy apple, peeled and very thinly sliced

1. Put sauerkraut and water in a medium nonreactive skillet. Gently heat just until the liquid has evaporated but not so much that the sauerkraut begins to stick to the pan. Remove from the heat.
2. Gradually heat a large cast-iron over medium heat. Put one tortilla in the pan and immediately sprinkle 1/3 cup cheese over half of it. Quickly arrange about half the apple slices over the cheese, then top with half the sauerkraut, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle with another 1/3 cup cheese.
3. Fold the tortilla over the filled half and press gently on it with a spatula to seal. Heat the quesadilla until the bottom is golden, about 2 minutes, then carefully flip and lightly brown the other side. Slide the quesadilla onto a cutting board and cut it into halves or quarters. Prepare the second one in the same fashion.
Variation: If you like, a little chopped ham tastes wonderful layered in with the other ingredients.

NUTRITION INFORMATION: Per main-dish serving: 306 calories; 9 g fat (4 g sat, 2 g mono); 16 mg cholesterol; 34 g carbohydrate; 22 g protein; 3 g fiber; 951 mg sodium; 229 mg potassium.

Nutrition bonus: Calcium (40% daily value), Iron (15% dv).

Laziness Rules

Ban Junk Food“OTTAWA — Dr. David McKeown, Toronto’s medical officer of health, is calling on Canadian politicians to address the country’s growing obesity rate by banning junk food advertising to children under 13.

In an interview with Canwest News Service Sunday, McKeown said it’s important to exert influence on what children are eating because dietary patterns established early in life tend to persist.”

What’s with people?  Now we have to legislate diets because parents can’t teach their children healthy habits?  It’s a parents responsibility to teach their children a healthy resistance ot low-brow marketing and avertising.  The truth is, the marketing doesn’t target kids.  It targets a certain type of people who respond by buying, and these kids don’t drive themselves to McDonald’s.  Mom or Dad or both are hauling the kids up there, or maybe they’re just bringing it home.  Either way, it’s laziness.

And tro try to shove it off on the government to deal with is just another lazy strategy.  Handle up and resist the temptation to poison your body and teach your children how to do the same!

The Skinny on Body for Life

Author: TheDietDiva
March 3, 2008

Margi FazeBody for Life is a 12-week diet and exercise program, and also an annual physique transformation competition. It was created by Bill Phillips, a former competitive bodybuilder and the founder of EAS, a manufacturer of nutritional supplements. It has been popularised by a bestselling book of the same name.

The first annual Body for Life competition was held in 1996. (It was then called the “EAS Grand Spokesperson Challenge”.) Entrants write about their experience of the program, and send this to EAS along with their ‘before’ and ‘after’ swimsuit photos. Prizes vary each year, but in 2005 the first prize was US$1,000,000.

Body for Life makes use of principles that have been widely known in bodybuilding. Its differences are in the way it has been packaged and marketed so as to appeal to consumers and be understood by the public. It supports an extensive ancillary industry of gyms, nutritionists and personal trainers.

Choosing a Healthful Diet

Author: damselfly
December 19, 2007

ALTHOUGH doctors today are trained to treat disease, one physician said: “Health, strangely enough, is not our field. Health is the responsibility of each person.”

Joe, mentioned in the previous article, accepted this responsibility after undergoing surgery for a severely blocked coronary artery. He made needed changes in his eating and reaped wonderful benefits. “You’ve experienced coronary regression, Joe,” his doctor happily reported. “The diet you’ve practiced has worked.”

What kind of adjustments can we make in our diet? How can we take responsibility for our health and eat in a way that is likely to improve it?

Author: damselfly
December 19, 2007

There is a category of food that does just what overweight people want it to do. There are actually foods that are natural fat burners. Amazingly, they are not difficult to find. The thing is that some of these foods may actually surprise you. There is a concept that has been around for some time. It is called negative calorie foods. What this means is that there are foods that require more energy to burn than they provide. Some of these are celery, spinach and apples.

These are just some of the natural foods that are fat burners. There is another group of natural foods that are not fat burners. Citrus fruits are not negative calorie food burners. However, they perform a helpful function in weight loss programs. Citrus fruits aid your body in the release of fats. It also helps your body to process the fat more efficiently and quickly.
