Almost all writings about abdominal exercise, or any exercise for that matter admonish about going full force with the exercise without considering the importance of nutrition. The area around the trunk and pelvis is referred to as the body’s core. It is the body’s center of activity. Core exercises help create a good body posture and strengthen the muscles of the torso and trunk. It provides a strong support to the hip, knee and ankle joints as well as the upper back, shoulders and neck. Core exercises strengthen all these muscles and allow the person the stamina to stand, walk and do the daily activities with ease.
Strengthening the core muscles also involve abdominal exercises. The ideal program is to develop stability first and then progress to exercises that will strengthen the core and abdomen. There are many ways to accomplish this including using the ball, cables, dumbbells, balance boards or even without any tools at all. Developing your core muscles will actually make you look better but its real advantage is in developing a good body posture that presupposes strong back muscles. It also eliminates back pain which is the result of imbalance of the core muscles.
On my second year as a varsity of the track team, our new coach wanted to add power to our runs. He designed a circuit training program that includes bench presses, shoulder presses, squats, leg curls, and leg lifts. Most of the workouts are conducted using the utility bench. The purpose of the utility bench is to isolate a muscle you are using.
The utility bench comes in many forms depending on what muscle you want to use. The most common of the utility bench is the one use for bench presses. It is an ordinary bench intended for you to lie flat on your back while hoisting weights straight up. This exercise is meant to build your pectoral muscles. Another variation of the utility bench is the bench that can recline. You can do incline presses or decline presses with them. This particular exercise will also build all your pectoral muscles.
I’m a triathlete that is little on the heavy side. I need to take out around 20 pounds to reach my full potential. It’s so hard to bike and run when I’m carrying an extra 20 pounds. It’s like carrying another bike (a good bike weights around 20 pounds) I race. Since I’m training all the time, I need a natural weight loss system that won’t zap my power and endurance.
Actually, I’m halfway there. Prior to being a triathlete, I was a heavy 199 pounds. In six months of training and watching what I eat, I lost 20 pounds. Now I can’t take off the last 20 pounds no matter how hard I train. I really need to watch what I eat and make sure that I eat healthy. That is the essence of natural weight loss–eating healthy and regular work out.
Weight lifting exercises can be applied to all parts of the body depending on the need. For the lower part of the body, exercise can help the front legs through squats, leg press and leg extensions. Back legs can profit from leg curls. For the waist you do abdominal core exercises. Weights may take the form of barbells, dumbbells or hand exercise weights.
Hand exercise weights are worn on a person’s hand for exercises that will develop the arm and upper body muscles. But it is best to keep in mind that whether you are exercising for your arms or any other part of your body, it will be useless without a well designed plan. Every exercise sequence is meant for a specific area of the body. Make sure that all areas are covered by your exercise plan. Your plan should also include the frequency at which the exercises are to be performed.

About four years ago, I was preparing for my wedding and I needed to lose some weight. I invited a friend of mine who works in the same office building to try the south beach diet. Someone who cooked south beach meal would deliver all 6 meals to our offices for two weeks. I figured I needed a partner in crime who would help me stick to my diet and listen to my rants and raves. We both agreed to begin phase 1.
The south beach diet phase 1 means no carbs, no sweets and no oil (no fried foods) for the first two weeks. Not even fruits are allowed on phase 1. It was mostly meats that were steamed, grilled or baked. On Phase 2, we could already eat fruits and brown rice. I lost 9 lbs on the first two weeks alone. I was starving the first few days and I was always sleepy but I managed to stay on track. I have yet to try phase 2 and 3.

Take the guesswork out of your fitness routines. Make use of heart rate monitors to enable you to train at the right intensity. For instance, if you’re a runner, a heart rate monitor will not only give you the permission to run slower, it will also tell you when you are not running hard enough.
Do away with that old thinking that training faster is better. Don’t feel guilty when your training run wasn’t quite as fast as what you would have liked. Know that to reach your running goals, you have to follow a proper training program with a mix of speed or interval workouts, tempo runs, recovery runs and longer runs all done in your target heart rate zone.
