The area around the trunk and pelvis is referred to as the body’s core. It is the body’s center of activity. Core exercises help create a good body posture and strengthen the muscles of the torso and trunk. It provides a strong support to the hip, knee and ankle joints as well as the upper back, shoulders and neck. Core exercises strengthen all these muscles and allow the person the stamina to stand, walk and do the daily activities with ease.
Strengthening the core muscles also involve abdominal exercises. The ideal program is to develop stability first and then progress to exercises that will strengthen the core and abdomen. There are many ways to accomplish this including using the ball, cables, dumbbells, balance boards or even without any tools at all. Developing your core muscles will actually make you look better but its real advantage is in developing a good body posture that presupposes strong back muscles. It also eliminates back pain which is the result of imbalance of the core muscles.
