Our bones support us and allow us to move. They protect our brain, heart, and other organs from injury. Our bones also store minerals such as calcium and phosphorous, which help keep our bones strong, and release them into the body when we need them for other uses. We won’t really know if we are enjoying healthy bones because deterioration is a slow process that can take years to manifest. But we can be pre-warned by certain signs.
This might be surprising to most of us, but an abnormally foul taste in the mouth might be a sign of deteriorating bone health. A healthy bone requires a certain pH balance and bad breath can be a first indication that pH balance is not stable; a state of acidosis will lead to bad breath. It is also necessary to take note of protein insufficiencies. Evidence can be seen in the hair and nails. Check if they are dry, brittle and weak. That is another sign of unhealthy bones.
